The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) ‘Redemption’ results, recap, and discussion (Ep. 12)

Tonight’s episode is titled ‘The Winner’s Circle.’

Episode 12 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): “Redemption” is back on FOX Sports 1 tonight (Weds., July 5, 2017), featuring a cast of ex-TUF guys trying to redeem themselves and earn another crack at UFC superstardom under the tutelage of head coaches Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw.

If you missed last week’s episode click here for our complete recap.

We kick things off inside the TUF gym with special guest fighter Tim Elliott, who you may remember from winning season 24 before moving on to fight Demetrious Johnson.

He’s there to help Team Dillashaw coach his buddy James Krause.

That’s assuming Krause and his scratched cornea can get medically cleared for his Jesse Taylor fight. The winner moves on to fight Dhiego Lima in the welterweight finale this Friday night (July 7) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Krause heads to the ophthalmologist and gets cleared to fight.

Later that night, some of the eliminated contestants start to party, which of course means booze and repeated obscenities. As you might expect, Julian Lane gets a little hot under the collar and starts chucking water bottles.

Then the hostilities reach the next level inside the house and Lane and Elliott have to be separated. Then Seth Baczynski gets into it with Krause soon thereafter and we get another round of pushing and shoving.

Time for the weigh ins and both Krause and Taylor hit their respective marks without incident.

170 lbs.: James Krause (23-7) vs. Jesse Taylor (30-15)

Round 1: Quick touch of gloves and Krause flips the script by taking Taylor down. Unfortunately he’s way too strong to keep down and works his way back up before scoring a takedown of his own. Taylor working the mug-and-slug while Krause positions for defense and submission attempts. Taylor plays it a little too loosey-goosey and Krause sweeps him. Now it’s time for Krause to work from top and he’s not very effective. Taylor gives up his back and plays possum, so Krause goes for the rear-naked choke and Taylor spins into top control. Even worse for Krause is that Taylor has him mashed into the fence. Taylor dropping elbows and Krause scoots up to his butt. He’s able to jerk his hips and get on top of Taylor. He uses the position to get back to his feet but Taylor scoops him up and slams him back down. Round ends with Taylor on top.

Round 2: No touch of gloves and Krause with a high kick. Taylor shoots and after a brief scramble gets on top. Taylor doing a good job of mugging Krause and dropping small shots that don’t do much damage but rack up a lot of points. I wish there was more to say right now but Taylor spends the entire round on top controlling the action and punching intermittently.

Round 3: This round starts just like the last one. Krause with a high kick and Taylor with a takedown. Taylor dominates him on top and eventually locks up a topside guillotine.

Final result: Taylor def. Krause by submission (topside guillotine)

After the bout, Taylor starts hulking up and shouting unintelligibly. “JT Money” moves on to fight Lima — also undefeated in TUF fights — this Friday night. They face off inside the cage for the pre-fight staredown. So do the coaches but yeah ... they aren’t fighting.

That concludes season 12. See you this fall!
