Wanderlei Silva wants to fight Vitor Belfort and ‘The Phenom’ better not come up with any excuses

Every few years, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight slugger Wanderlei Silva tries to finagle a fight with fellow aging Brazilian Vitor Belfort, who stopped “The Axe Murderer” at UFC 17.5 way back in 1998.

After all, it’s the “fight of his life.”

"I started fighting again to fight Belfort," Silva told MMA Brasil (via Bloody Elbow). "I wanted to fight Sonnen and I did that. But what I really want is to fight Belfort. He's the one I want to put my hands on. And he better not come up with any broken hand excuses this time around."

Scared amateur?

Silva (35-13-1, 1 NC) recently returned to the mixed martial arts (MMA) world after a four-year hiatus, which came in the form of a losing effort to Chael Sonnen under the Bellator MMA banner in New York City.

More on that snoozer here.

Belfort (26-13) got back into the win column by outpointing Nate Marquardt at UFC 212 last month in Brazil. It was the final fight of his WME | IMG contract, but “The Phenom” has been wishy-washy in terms of his next move.

Silva vs. Belfort on Spike TV? Stranger things have happened.
