Now that Jon Jones has reclaimed his place atop the light heavyweight throne, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) matchmakers are tasked with finding “Bones” a suitable opponent for his end-of-year-return.
Sure, Volkan Oezdemir threw his name into the hat by crushing Jimi Manuwa at the UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) last Saturday night in Anaheim, the same event that saw Jones finish Daniel Cormier (video), but he’s unlikely to leapfrog Alexander Gustafsson, who took “Bones” to the limit back at UFC 165.
Then again, “The Mauler” may take a backseat himself, if the promotion is able to lure former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar back into the cage. Jones and Lesnar have been jawing at one another over the past few weeks for reasons not yet understood.
If and when they do fight, Jones is likely to be the odds-on betting favorite despite his 40-pound weight deficit, considering he opened at -350 to Lesnar’s +265, according to our fiscal friends at Bovada.lv.
With that said, who’s ready to lay down some cheddar for this potential super fight?
