Jon Jones made an eventful return to the UFC light heavyweight throne last night (Sat., July 29, 2017) at UFC 214 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., when he defeated champion Daniel Cormier via third-round knockout to reclaim the divisional strap. After saying a ton of classy things about “DC,” Jones turned his attention to a bigger superstar.
“Brock Lesnar,” Jones announced during his post-fight interview (shown above courtesy of UFC). “If you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you meet me in the Octagon.”
Jones then dropped the mic and walked out of the cage.
This outburst by “Bones” shouldn’t shock many considering he and Lesnar recently traded barbs in the media. A matchup with Lesnar means Jones would be making a move from light heavyweight up to heavyweight, which is something he has pondered in the past.
While Lesnar has a lot of obstacles to overcome before he steps foot back inside of the Octagon (like a WWE contract, ongoing suspension, and re-entry into the USADA testing pool), there is a strong possibility he returns to action early next year. With Cormier in the rear view, Jones is free to explore all options, which now currently includes a superfight against Lesnar for tons of cash.
