You know it’s a bad sign when you finish behind Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who is widely-considered the lowest draw in the word’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
That’s a position ex-middleweight champion Chris Weidman finds himself in after the UFC on FOX 25 event last Saturday night (July 22, 2017) inside NYCB Live in Uniondale, New York, returning 1.64 million viewers — the lowest overnight ratings in the history of the series.
That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting:
Compared to last July’s UFC on FOX 20 fight card, headlined by the women’s bantamweight showdown between Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko, the total audience was down 32 percent from 2.44 million and the key 18-49 demo was down 33 percent, falling from a 0.9 to an 0.6.
The previous low was set by the promotion-less Johnson (1.74 million viewers) back in April.
The ratings for UFC on FOX 25 will no doubt rise once West Coast markets are tallied; however, it’s not a good look for the “All American,” who limped into the event after losing three straight fights.
