He’s back!
After more than a year away from action, Luke Rockhold will make his long-awaited return to action when he faces off against David Branch in the main event of an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 16, 2017.
The promotion brought word of the news during UFC on FOX 25’s telecast earlier this evening.
Rockhold hasn’t seen the inside of the cage since getting knocked out by Michael Bisping at UFC 199 in June 2016. Injuries delayed his comeback, though a spat with the promotion and lack of suitable foes also played into his extended time on the sidelines. He was actually linked to a rumored bout against Gegard Mousasi, but after “Dreamcatcher” took off to Bellator MMA, the next best option was apparently Branch.
The bulldozing Middleweight is in the midst of an 11-fight win streak, and made a successful return to the Octagon at UFC 211 after winning multiple division titles under the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) banner.
The UFC Fight Night event will also feature a bout between Hector Lombard vs. Mike Perry, as well as Kamaru Usman taking on Sergio Moraes, and the aforementioned Jotko taking on Uriah Hall.
Expect more fights to be announced as the event draws closer. Until then click here for more information regarding the upcoming Fox Sports 1-televised event.
