UFC on FOX 25 results: Fight Pass, FOX 'Prelims' recap from Long Island

Chris Weidman and Kelvin Gastelum will hook em’ up in the main event of UFC on FOX 25 — which takes place tonight night (July 22, 2017) inside NYCB Live in Uniondale, New York — in what is a “must-win” bout for “All American.”

In the co-main event, Dennis Bermudez will face Daren Elkins, while Gian Villante vs. Patrick Cummins and Thomas Almeida vs. Jimmie Rivera round out the main card.

But before the premier bouts get underway on FOX starting at 8:00 p.m. there was plenty of action to go around on the “prelims” portion of the vent, which included bouts on Fight Pass and and FOX Sports 1,

Frankie Perez vs. Chris Wade

The talented Lightweights kicked of the night of fights with a back-and-forth brawl that saw both men have their shining moments throughout the 15 minutes of action.

In the end, though, Wade - the hometown favorite — did enough to score a unanimous decision win and get some revenge on Perez, whom he lost to on the regional circuit three years ago.

Shane Burgos vs. Godofredo Pepey

Shane Burgos and Godofredo Pepey entertained fight fans throughout their 15-minute war, as the two left it all in the cage and swung for the fences throughout, which means someone was bound to get dropped.

One the final bell rang, it was clear Burgos would stay undefeated at 10-0, earning the clear-cut unanimous decision over his very game opponent.

Junior Albini vs. Timothy Johnson

The two heavyweights wasted no time in letting their fists fly. And as hard as they were throwing, someone was bound to get put to sleep. Ask, and you shall receive. See how the action unfolded with our play-by-play call:

Round 1: Johnson blitzes, lands some of his shots. Body kick by Albini, body punches and left hook by Johnson. Another body kick from the Brazilian and Johnson wades into the clinch. One minute in. Johnson still leaning on him, takes some short knees. These are actually pretty decent. Two minutes in and they separate. Albini misses an elbow, lands left hooks. Counter right by Johnson, check hook from Albini. As Johnson wades in with another flurry, Albini cracks him with a knee to the body and a left hook that takes Johnson’s legs out. A follow-up right hand sends Johnson to the mat for the finish.

That’s one way to make a splash in your UFC debut.

Marlon Vera vs. Brian Kelleher

Vera continued to impress in his latest performance. submitting Brian Kelleher in the very first round of their Featherweight tilt. Kelleher tried his best to escape from the tough pickle he was in by slamming “Chito,” which only allowed Vera to get better position to put on the fight-ending finish.

Chase Sherman vs Damian Grabowski

The two hard-hitting heavyweights kicked off the televised “prelim” action in an entertaining scrap. The bout was mostly played out on the feet, as the two big men were head hunting early. Sherman showed of the complete package by mixing his strikes well, including a nice kicking game, which is not often seen in big men.

But, despite eating plenty of punishment, Grabowski hung tough and made it all three rounds though he came up way short on the judges scorecards.

Alex Oliveira vs. Ryan LaFlare

Oliveira scored his fourth straight win by absolutely crushing the hometown hero with a devastating uppercut from out of nowhere. LaFlare made the mistake of rushing in with no abandon, only to get clipped by the fight-ending strike. And it was a thing of beauty.

Eryk Anders vs. Rafael Natal

Just four weeks ago, Anders was winning his first-ever mixed martial arts (MMA) title under the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) banner, and today he was taking on a highly-experienced veteran in Natal. But, to the former Alabama linebacker, it was just another day at the office, as he bullied his way to a first-round knockout win in his Octagon debut and put some fear into the rest of the Middleweight division, in the process.

Lyman Good vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos

Both men came out aggressive and swinging in a fight that played out predominantly on the feet. Good seemed to be the more powerful puncher of the two, though, it seemed Zaleski was landing more of them. After an intense two rounds, neither men showed any signs of wearing down, as they came out swing harder than ever, much to fans’ delight.

In the end, the judges’ awarded Zaleski dos Santos the razor-thin split decision after an all-out war.
