Most people would be down in the dumps with low spirits after suffering three straight losses. Chris Weidman, though, is not most people.
Despite losing his last three bouts inside the Octagon — all via knockout — “All American” knows he has the skills to return to the top, a spot he says he’s never really left. And once he gets through Kelvin Gastelum at UFC on FOX 25 in Uniondale, New York, people are going to see him fight for the title once again.
That’s what Chris confidently told MMA Fighting:
“I’m sure there people perceiving it that way, but they are absolutely wrong. I’m on my way up. After this fight, people are going to see who the best guy in the middleweight division is. People are going to want to see me fight for the title and I don’t have to say a word, just watch me Saturday night. People are going to see the truth. I fought doubters, lost three fights in a row, if you see that on paper people think I am on my way down. I understand. Watch the fights, they are all fights I was winning, last one was a weird one and I am capable to go out there and dominate any 185’r.”
Can’t knock the confidence.
Breaking out of his funk won’t be easy, as kelvin has proven to be a one tough nut to crack, winning his last three in impressive fashion over Johny Hendricks, Vitor Belfort and Tim Kennedy.
Plus, the former Ultimate fighter (TUF) winner has title aspirations of his own, so he has a lot to prove to himself and the fight world as he gears up to face another former champion.
