Bellator 181 “Campos vs. Girtz 3” took place on July 14, 2017 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The trilogy fight in the main event placed the streaking Derek Campos against hard nosed Justin Gaethje training partner Brandon Girtz.
Much like “Highlight Reel” Gaethje, Girtz bit down on his mouthpiece and came forward swinging, resulting in a fight with wild momentum swings and a lot of blood being shed. Unfortunately for Girtz most of it was his, leading to a necessary medical TKO at the end of the second round.
The bloodbath was good news for Spike though as the third Girtz vs. Campos encounter drew an average of 775,000 fans, with a peak viewership of 912,000 at 10:57 pm ET with +3 DVR factored in.
The entire show as a whole was a more modest success for Spike, bringing in an overall average of 573,000 viewers. That’s considerably less than the Bellator 180/Bellator NYC “prelims” card average of over 900,000, although having a Phil Davis vs. Ryan Bader fight on free TV has been a draw in the past.
