Bellator 180: "Sonnen vs. Silva" took place on Sat., June 24, 2017 at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. in what was dubbed the promotion’s biggest event to date. The main event featured a grudge match between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva that saw the “American Gangster” edge out “The Axe Murderer” (recap).
In the co-main event of the evening, Matt Mitrione knocked out Fedor Emelianenko to score his biggest win to date (see it). Plus, Ryan Bader make good on his promise and captured gold by taking out Phil Davis, while Michael Chandler coughed up his Lightweight strap after suffering a brutal ankle injury.
Douglas Lima, meanwhile, held on to his strap by taking out Lorenz Larkin while top prospect Aaron Pico failed to live up to his high expectations. Indeed, there was plenty of action to go around in “The Big Apple,” however, if you click play in the embedded video above you will see plenty of stuff you didn’t catch, including meet and greets, fight breakdowns, and reactions from fighters after their big wins.
