Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is returning to “Steel City” for an upcoming “Fight Night” event, likely on FOX Sports 1, taking place in a venue to be determined on Sat., Sept. 16, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.
Two bouts targeted for that card, which not coincidentally airs the same night as boxing’s GGG vs. Canelo super fight, are Thiago Alves vs. Mike Perry (welterweight) and Hector Lombard vs. Anthony Smith (middleweight).
Alves (22-11) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Patrick Cote at the UFC 208 pay-per-view (PPV) event earlier this year, while Perry (10-1) recently wrecked Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 108 last April.
The aging Lombard (34-7-1, 2 NC) is looking to snap a three-fight losing streak — in which he was finished twice — against the red-hot Smith (27-12), who is coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Andrew Sanchez and Elvis Mutapcic.
Expect more UFC “Pittsburgh” fight announcements in the coming weeks.
