UFC on FOX 25 results stream live: ‘Weidman vs Gastelum’ play-by-play updates

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on FOX 25: "Weidman vs. Gastelum" mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which takes place this Sat. night (July 22, 2017) inside NYCB Live in Uniondale, New York.

UFC on FOX 25 will be headlined by the middleweight showdown pitting former division champion Chris Weidman against streaking welterweight import Kelvin Gastelum. Elsewhere on the card, grizzled veteran Dennis Bermudez looks to avoid “Damage” from featherweight standout Darren Elkins.

Round 1: Both men tentative early on. Gastelum tries a head kick. One minute in. 3-2 and a body kick from Weidman. Counter hook as Gastelum presses forward. STraight right. Weidman shoots and spins Gastelum down, avoiding a triangle as Gastelum gets to his knees. Two minute sin. Gastelum makes it to his feet, eats a hard knee. Gastelum takes him down into side control. Two minutes to go.

Wiedman working on a kimura. Weidman struggling to break Gastelum’s grip and the smaller man manages to scramble up. Body shot from Gastelum. One minute to go. Head kick from Gastelum. Still lots of lead hand pawing. Overhand left drops Weidman in the last ten seconds! Gastelum hammers him with hammerfists until the bell. 10-9 Gastelum.

Round 2: Gastelum with a leg kick. Left hook by Weidman. Leg kick lands. Good straight right and they tie up. Weidman hauls him to the fence a minute in. He drives for the takedown, gets it. One hook in for Weidman as Gastelum gets to a knee. Gastelum gets to his feet, slung back down two minutes in. Back to the feet. Another takedown for Weidman and he sets up in full guard. Round 3: They come out swinging and Weidman scores a knockdown with a right hand. Stiff jab from Gastelum and he stuffs a shot. Fake level change to a right hand and now Weidman’s piecing Gastelum up. Gastelum bobs and weaves to safety a minute in and lands a left hand. Hard low kick from Weidman. Counter right snaps Gastelum’s head back and he ducks for a single-leg, which Gastelum escapes. The next takedown scores. Gastelum pops back up two minutes in. Another takedown. Gastelum on his knees, can’t get the scramble. Two minutes to go.

Weidman goes to work with ground-and-pound, then transitions to an arm-triangle for the finish.

145 lbs.: Dennis Bermudez vs. Darren Elkins

Round 1: Bermudez jumps in with a knee, eats a right hand. Leg kick from Bermudez, eats a big right hand on the break. Slashing right lands for Bermudez, then another pair of hard leg kicks. Check hook a minute in. Bermudez tries a Superman punch and eats a counter. Anotehr hard leg kick and Elkins is already feeling those. Bermudez slips going for a head kick and Elkins goes for the back. Bermudez crawls to the fence and stands, Elkins attached at the waist. Two minutes in. Elkins muscling Bermudez around. Bermudez turns to face him, tries a Superman punch. Leg kick from Bermudez with two minutes to go.

Elkins avoids a right hand and puts in a hook. Full body triangle. Elkins chipping away. Bermudez powers his way to his feet and shucks him off before putting him on the fence. Elkins reverses. Nasty knee, Elkins shrugs it off and slams him to the mat. Bermudez pops up and does some damage in the clinch, only to fall into a choke. 10-9 Elkins.

Round 2: Nice flurry by Bermudez and he shoots in, no dice. Swatting hook by Elkins, sharp hooks from Bermudez. Straight right dings Bermudez. One minute in. Bermudez lands a right hand on the break. Elkins puts him on the fence, lands a good knee upstairs. Bermudez reverses position, lands a spinning back fist. Good jab. Elkins ducks a left hook and shoots, but can’t hold onto the leg. Leg kick by Bermudez and again he limp-legs out. Both land hard right hands. Bermudez scores his first takedown of the fight against the cage. Elkins works his way up, eats a knee to the body. 205 lbs.: Patrick Cummins vs. Gian Villante

Round 1: Villante looking for the leg kicks early. Cummins goes for a single-leg, lands a knee when they separate. Double-leg this time, Villante limp-legs out and lands hammerfists. Overhand rights landing for Villante. Cummins comes back with an overhand of his own. One minute in. Cummins still pursuing, but they pause action due to a headbutt that cut open the left side of Cummins’ skull. They resume and Cummins again puts him on the fence. Villante separates. Two minutes in. left hook by Cummins. Overhand right lands for Cummins. He again hauls Villante to the fence. Two minutes to go.

Hard left hook by Cummins on the break. Jab exchange, Villante’s the stiffer. Cummins lands a right hand and wrangles Villante to one knee on the fence. Villante again pops up. One minute to go. Left hook from Cummins after they separate. Cross counter. Back to the clinch. 10-9 Cummins.

Round 2: Cummins actually getting the better of things in the striking. Left hook, overhand right land. Villante avoids a takedown. Chopping right by Villante. One minute in. Both men jabbing. 135 lbs.: Thomas Almeida vs. Jimmie Rivera

Round 1: Leg kicks from Almeida. Rivera answers in kind a minute in. Quick combo lands for him. Almeida continuing to pick at the lead leg, they trade right hands. Left hook from Rivera. Big left hook drops Almeida! He manages to work his way up and press Rivera against the cage. Rivera spits out his mouthpiece, which leads to a reset in the center two minutes in. Rivera keeping on the pressure. Check hook lands for Almeida. Two minutes to go.

Low leg kick by Rivera, body kick by Almeida. They exchange in the center. Another leg kick from Almeida. BIG right hand and down goes Almeida again. Again he scrambles up. One minute to go. Rivera lands a knee on the inside. Double jab from Almeida, left hook lands upstairs. Both land low kicks. 10-9 Rivera.

Round 2: Hard right hand by Rivera. Hard knee from Almeida and Rivera briefly puts him on the fence. Knee to the body from Almeida. Back to the leg kicks, left hook. One minute in. Round 1: Zaleski catches a body kick and scores a takedown, looking for the back as Good pops up. Zealski looks for a single-leg, then an outside trip, both of which Good denies. Good pressing forward a minute in. Nice uppercut from Zaleski, who eats a right hand and comes back with a leg kick that knocks Good over. Leg kicks from Zaleski. Two minutes in. Good counters a leg kick with a right hand and takes top position. Two minutes to go.

Back on the feet. BIG counter right from Zaleski. Heavy uppercut. Good’s walking through them so far, lands another right off a leg kick. One minute to go. Zaelski lands a body shot, eats a combination from Good. Knee from Zaleski. 10-9 Zaleski.

Round 2: Good left hook from Good. Overhand right by Good. 3-2. Heavy straight right comes back at him. One minute in. Good starting to actually get results with his pressure. Two minutes in. 185 lbs.: Eryk Anders vs. Rafael Natal

Round 1: Low kick from Natal. Anders pressing forward. Straight right lands for the Brazilian. Front kick to the body. Counter right. Leg kicks, right hand a minute in. Hard hooks land for Anders, then a point-blank left cross. 2-3 by Natal. Anders with a counter left and he stuffs a takedown, cracking him with a head kick and left hand on the way up. Natal in full retreat, stumbling as he runs across the cage, and Anders takes him down into half guard two minutes in. Hard shots by Anders from top position. Knee lands on the way up, robably illegal. 1-2 from Anders, then another savage left hand that puts Natal to sleep.

170 lbs.: Ryan LaFlare vs. Alex Oliveira

Round 1: Oliveira tries a wheel kick. LaFlare shoots, hauls him to the fence. LaFlare has a full body lock, scores a takedown that Oliveira attempts to counter with an armbar. No dice and now LaFlare has side control. He might be looking for a north-south choke, steadily tightening it, but he loses it two minutes in. Knees to the body. Two minutes to go.

LaFlare briefly tries to isolate an arm and snuffs out an attempt to bridge, maintaining half guard. One minute to go. North-south again. Oliveira rolls to his knees and LaFlare looks for an armbar, which he can’t finish before the bell. 10-9 LaFlare.

Round 2: Oliveira lands a good cut kick early. Counter right hand. Good combination by the Brazilian, who throws LaFlare aside when he tries to shoot in. Leg kick a minute in. LaFlare tries a level change, can’t get a grip. Leg kick by Oliveira, who puts LaFlare completely to sleep with a savage counter right uppercut.

Final result: Oliveira def. LaFlare by KO (punch)


265 lbs.: Chase Sherman vs. Damian Grabowski

Round 1: Counter right lands for Sherman. Another right hand stings Grabowski. 1-3. Head kick blocked a minute in. Grabowski shoots, denied. Leg kick from Sherman. 1-2 lands clean. Two minutes in. Grabowski to the body, lands an overhand right. Good knee from Sherman as Grabowski’s leaning. Two minutes to go.

Overhand right form Grabowski, counter combo capped by a body kick from Sherman. Good body shot. Inside leg kick at the end of a combo. Grabowski with a right downstairs. One minute to go. Overhand right form Grabowski, left hook from Sherman and another leg kick that makes Grabowski switch stance. Another overhand right from Grabowski. Sherman with a right downstairs, eats another inside low kick. Left hook, head kick just blocked. Leg kick from Sherman, eats a jab with two minutes to go.

Grabowski to the body. Hard right hand and knee to the body land for Sherman. 1-2-leg kick. Punching combination. Straight right from Grabowski. Sherman check hook. One minute to go. Uppercut, check hook, body shots, low kick. Overhand right from Grabweski, knee from Sherman. Grabowski lands some decent shots before the bell. 10-9 Sherman.

Round 3: Grabowski trying to come on stronger, but Sherman’s combinations are doing damage. Sherman warned for sticking his fingers out a minute in. Overhand left by Grabowski. He shoots, can’t quite get Sherman down. Check hooks and a leg kick from Sherman. Leg kicks from Sherman. Two minutes in, 3-2 from Sherman. Grabowski to the body. Leg kick from Sherman. More. Sherman stuffs another takedown. Right hand by Grabowski, elbows and right hands by Sherman. Left hook upstairs. Sherman puts him on the fence and they trade knees. 145 lbs.: Kyle Bochniak vs. Jeremy Kennedy

Round 1: Kennedy hits an immediate takedown into guard. He passes to half guard, put back in guard. One minute in. Bochniak looking to use butterfly hooks, loses them. Two minutes in. Bochniak scoots to the fence, gets to a seated position. Kennedy flattens him back down and lands an elbow. Back to guard. Bochniak nearly gives up his back trying to stand with two minutes to go.

Kennedy still attached to him. Bochniak manages to separate forty seconds later and Kennedy drills him with knees to the body before hitting another takedown. Ground-and-pound form Kennedy until the bell. 10-9 Kennedy.

Round 2: Bochniak pressures and they trade right hands before Kennedy shoots again. Kennedy pulls his hips out and completes the takedown on the fence. One minute in. Bochniak gets to his feet, Kennedy trips him back down. Bochniak gives up his back and Kennedy slips in a hook before opening up with punches. Back up, back down with an outside trip into half guard. Two minutes to go.

Bochniak sweeps his way to his feet forty seconds later, then gets taken down immediately for his trouble. One minute to go. Kennedy postures up for some harder shots, maintains top position when Bochniak tries to kick him away. 10-9 Kennedy.

Round 3: Left hand lands for Bochniak, who avoids a knee. He stuffs a takedown. Straight right lands on the fence. Kennedy lands a knee in return a minute in. Bochniak looking confident, lands a body kick. Right hand connects. Bochniak lands a low blow that pauses the action. Kennedy takes his time before coming back, then eats a low-high combination. Counter right by Kennedy two minutes in. Bochniak cracks him with a right cross and a leg kick. Kennedy changes levels, transitions to a single, sprints after him and grabs a rear waist lock before tripping him down with two minutes to go.

Bochniak tries to turn, eats left hands. Kennedy has Bochniak’s right arm pinned behind him. One minute to go. More left hands by Kennedy. Bochniak works his way up, taken back down and eats a pair of huge elbows when he goes for a leglock. 10-9 Kennedy.

135 lbs.: Brian Kelleher vs. Marlon Vera

Round 1: Leg kicks from Kelleher to start, shifting right hand lands. Kelleher shoots, puts Vera on the cage. Knees from Kelleher. One minute in. They separate and Kelleher digs a hard right to the body. Well-timed level change, Vera counters with a Kimura grip. Vera tries to spin him two minutes in, maintains his grip. Kelleher trips him to the mat, but Vera transitions to an armbar and draws an immediate tap.

Final result: Vera def. Kelleher by submission (armbar)


265 lbs.: Junior Albini vs. Timothy Johnson

Round 1: Johnson blitzes, lands some of his shots. Body kick by Albini, body punches and left hook by Johnson. Another body kick from the Brazilian and Johnson wades into the clinch. One minute in. Johnson still leaning on him, takes some short knees. These are actually pretty decent. Two minutes in and they separate. Albini misses an elbow, lands left hooks. Counter right by Johnson, check hook from Albini. As Johnson wades in with another flurry, Albini cracks him with a knee to the body and a left hook that takes Johnson’s legs out. A follow-up right hand sends Johnson to the mat for the finish.

Final result: Albini def. Johnson by KO (punches)


145 lbs.: Shane Burgos vs. Godofredo Pepey

Round 1: Pepey opens with a wheel kick attempt, then tries an overhand right and spinning back fist. Solid jabs. Counter hook lands for Burgos. One minute in. Pepey tries a flying scissor takedown, no dice. They trade jabs. Left hook by Burgos, overhand rigth by Pepey. Pepey shoots, but Burgos limp-legs out and drops him with a knee. Burgos waves him back up and blasts him with huge punches. Another knockdown and again he waves the Brazilian up. Pepey shoots, Burgos grabs an underhook to defend, Two minutes to go.

Pepey puts in a hook, Burgos turns into him and separates. Big counter right. Again. Again. Overhand right dings Burgos, wheel kick blocked. Burgos blasts him with another overhand right, left hook, right cross. They trade left hooks with a minute to go. Another cross counter and he denies another takedown. Burgos taunts him as Pepey retreats. Pepey shoots, denied with an underhook once again. 10-9 Burgos.

Round 2: Pepey fires a knee and tries another wheel kick, only to eat another right hand. Burgos stuffs another takedown. Cross counter. Pepey firing his jab well, but Burgos has the timing. Cross counter by Burgos. Pepey pulls guard and they taunt each other a minute in. Left hook from Burgos. Overhand right lands for Pepey, eats a body shot after Burgos stuffs a takedown. Left hook and spinning back fist from Pepey, Burgos to the body. Two minutes in. Overhand right from Pepey. Another guard pull and Burgos lands two hard hammerfists before standing. Calf kick by Burgos, left hook to the body. Overhand right by Pepey, more jabs by Burgos. Low kick from Burgos with two minutes to go.

Pepey shoots and puts Burgos on the fence. He lands an uppercut on the break and Burgos sticks his tongue out at him. They’re clowning as they trade blows. Right hand by Burgos. One minute to go. A savage body shot drops Pepey, who gets back to his feet very slowly. Burgos stalking, pops the body, lands two huge right hands and a brutal uppercut as Pepey pulls guard. Perez trying to get to his rear and use the fence. He makes his move and Wade puts in a hook. Ground-and-pound from Wade, but Perez works his way back up two minutes in. Perez reverses position, lands a knee. He changes levels and gets Wade to a knee. Two minutes to go.

Short elbows from Wade. He’s still defending, grabs a kimura grip. Good knees from Perez, who sweeps him to the mat with a minute to go. Wade works his way up and hits a head-and-arm throw in the waning seconds. Close round. 10-9 Wade.

Round 2: Leg kicks from Perez. Wade pressuring, switches stance, eats a pair of right hands. Body kick from Perez. One minute in. Wade fires leg kicks, nearly eats a head kick. Left hook lands for him. Perez tries a spinning back kick and easily denies a shot. Wade comes back with a front kick to the jaw and wrangles Perez to the mat two minutes in. Perez inverts and ties Wade up in a reverse triangle. Wade gets his head out and goes to north-south. Perez attempts to push off the cage, denied and briefly caught in a crucifix. Two minutes to go.

Back to full guard. Perez works his way to his knees against the cage. He makes it to his feet with a minute to go. Wade still attached to him. Perez looks for the switch, can’t get free before the bell. 10-9 Wade.

Round 3: They trade some kicks in the early going. Wade wades in, Perez breaks his grip and separates. Wade cracks him with a pair of right hands and Perez ducks a head kick for a takedown, only for Wade to use a guillotine to sweep into top position. Full guard two minutes in. Wade staying heavy as Perez keeps an open guard. Butterfly sweep attempt, Wade working to pass but cannot do so. Two minutes to go.

Perez scrambles to his knees, then to his feet forty seconds later. He reverses position with a minute to go. Wade puts him on another part of the fence, then charges into a knee after they separate. Wade digging for a low takedown and Perez slams him with punches and hammerfists. 10-9 Wade.

Final result: Wade def. Perez by unanimous decisions
