High-octane lightweight fighters Paul Felder and Stevie Ray faced off today (Sun., July 16, 2017) with the UFC Fight Night 113 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1 from inside the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Stevie Ray, the hometown fighter, was on a two-fight winning streak and looked to cement a place in the top fifteen. Paul Felder was coming off a spectacular knockout win over Alessandro Ricci by lead elbow. Felder had another reason to fight for as well, his father having recently passed on from cancer.
For you dad. I will walk in front of this hostile crowd. #gotime
— Paul Felder (@felderpaul) July 15, 2017
The crowd was firmly on Stevie Ray’s face during Bruce Buffer’s announcement, giving him a huge cheer. Felder connected on a teep to open the bout. They exchanged punches and wrapped up in the clinch. Stevie Ray pushed Felder to the cage and dropped for a takedown, which Felder defended. They reversed positions several times. They each looked for elbows and knees, with Felder connecting well on a couple body knees and a nice elbow. Suddenly, Felder dropped Ray with a knee to the face from the Thai plum! He swarmed, looking for the knockout as Ray tried to defend. Eventually, Felder found an opening and dropped three ferocious elbows that put Ray out cold! The crowd was utterly silent as the referee lunged in to save Ray from further damage. Boos swelled through the crowd but then lapsed into silence. The win seemed to mean a lot to Felder
In the post-fight interview, Felder mentioned his father dying of pancreatic cancer, saying this win was for him, and his father was in the cage fighting with him. Felder also said he has nothing but love for Stevie Ray and the Scottish fans who stand behind him. He was very complimentary of the hometown fighter and says he will go on to do great things. Great win for Paul Felder, especially after such a tragic event in his life.
Final result: Paul Felder def. Stevie Ray via KO (3:37 of R1)
