The injury bug has struck once again. With just over two weeks to go, a lightweight matchup between Sage Northcutt and John Makdessi has been removed from UFC 214 on July 29 from inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., per a recent announcement by UFC.
According to the promotion, both fighters are injured and have been forced to withdraw from their Fight Pass headlining bout later this month.
Northcutt, 21, is coming off a submission loss to Mickey Gall at UFC on FOX 22. Overall, “Super” has amassed an Octagon record of 3-2, including one submission and one knockout finish. Northcutt remains one of the more promising talents at 155 pounds, but this is certainly a setback heading into the latter part of 2017.
Makdessi, 32, was scheduled to fill in for an injured Claudio Puelles before pulling out himself. The Canadian striker was set to make his first Octagon appearance since getting obliterated by a Lando Vannata wheel kick (watch here) back at UFC 206.
UFC 214 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight pitting current champion Daniel Cormier against nemesis and former champion Jon Jones.
