Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey recently reunited with her friends in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for the “Mae Young Classic,” a tournament comprised of 32 female wrestlers from the regional and independent circuit.
Including Shayna Baszler.
The 36-year-old “Queen of Spades” is trying her luck in the squared circle after dropping four straight fights in mixed martial arts (MMA), including last February’s decision loss to Reina Miura at DEEP: “Jewels 15” in Japan.
Rousey and Baszler — along with Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir — are longtime pro wrestling fans and even went so far as to dub themselves “The Four Horsewomen,” an homage to the former NWA stable featuring Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson and Tully Blanchard.
It was a “joke,” by most accounts.
Rousey was also featured in prominent roles for WWE (like this) when her stock was at its highest. Unfortunately “Rowdy” — who also got her moniker from an ex-wrestler — was dethroned in 2015 and has been keeping a low profile even since.
For how much longer remains to be seen, but she always has a home in WWE.
