Latest UFC rankings update: Justin Gaethje debuts in lightweight top 10 after smashing Michael Johnson

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently wrapped a pair of mixed martial arts (MMA) events starting with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 25 Finale and ending with the UFC 213 pay-per-view (PPV) event, both taking place last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As expected, there was plenty of movement in the official rankings. Justin Gaethje cracked the lightweight top 10 by smashing Michael Johnson at TUF 25 Finale (watch it), while Robert Whittaker and Alistair Overeem took over the No. 1 spots in their respective divisions after big wins at UFC 213 (see them here and here).

Here's how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, *NR = Not previously ranked).

There you have it.

You can expect these standings to change in roughly one week -- especially in the welterweight division -- when UFC Fight Night 113, headlined by the 170-pound showdown between Gunnar Nelson and Sergio Ponzinibbio, takes place inside SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland (more on that fight card here).

Until then, let us know what you think of the latest rankings movement in the comments section below.
