Dana White: Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar in the works for ‘Blessed’ title defense

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, is in line to earn yet another title shot when he collides with reigning 145-pound kingpin Max Holloway at a UFC pay-per-view (PPV) event later this year.

That’s according to promotion president Dana White (via Khon2).

Holloway (18-3) unified the featherweight titles when he stopped Jose Aldo at UFC 212 last month in Brazil. It was the eleventh straight win for the streaking Hawaiian, who hasn’t tasted defeat since a close decision loss to Conor McGregor back in 2013.

Edgar (22-5-1), meanwhile, is 7-2 since dropping down from 155 pounds, with both losses coming by way of decision to the aforementioned Aldo. “The Answer” recently finished Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 for his second straight win.

Where and when UFC books this featherweight title fight remains to be seen, though it’s not unreasonable to think Edgar will be slotted for the promotion’s return to New York City this November.

Stay tuned.
