Before Derrick Lewis takes on Mark Hunt this weekend (Sat., June 10, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 110 inside Sparks Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, let’s take a trip back down memory lane to see one of “Black Beast’s” most dominant performances.
In Feb. 2015, Lewis found himself trying to get back into the win column against Ruan Potts after getting knocked out by Matt Mitrione in his previous outing. As usual, Lewis came out aggressive, looking for the quick knockout. But, Potts proved to be game, weathering “Black Beast’s” initial attack to make it to the second round, almost locking in a heel hook on the massive Heavyweight.
In round two, however, Potts couldn’t escape the stalking Lewis, who unleashed some devastating ground-and-pound on his fallen foe to put an end to the fight, much to the relief of Ruan, I’m sure.
Lewis went on to lose his following bout against Shawn Jordan, but he has since racked up six straight wins ahead of his biggest test to date against “Super Samoan.” A victory over the long-time veteran could very well secure Lewis a championship bout ... or at least a No. 1 contender eliminator match.
UFC Fight Night 110 will also feature a co-headlining bout between Derek Brunson and Daniel Kelly. To see who all is fighting at the FOX Sports 1-televised event click here.
