Anderson Silva sends heartfelt message to Jose Aldo after tough UFC 212 loss - ‘You are a great hero’

MMA: UFC 212-Aldo vs Hollway Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Jose Aldo suffered just the second loss of his storied Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career this past weekend (June 3, 2017), getting knocked out by Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (full video highlights here).

The loss was a difficult one for Aldo — whose only other defeat inside the Octagon came against Conor McGregor back at UFC 194 -- as the Brazilian bomber had just won back his strap by defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200.

And while Aldo has received an enormous amount of support from his fans following his defeat, former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva took to Instagram to show his own love and encouragement to his long-time friend.

Indeed, if anyone knows just what it’s like to lose a championship strap after an extended period of dominance it’s Anderson, as he coughed up his 185-pound strap to Chris Weidman back at UFC 162. Since that defeat, Silva has gone one to amass a rather unimpressive 1-3 record.

Aldo released a statement announcing his intent to return stronger than ever, though he didn’t give a timetable for his expected return to action.
