With a potential title shot looming in the distance for both fighters, former women’s strawweight title challengers Claudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewicz battled for Octagon supremacy last night (Sat., June 3, 2017) at UFC 212 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Surprisingly, it didn’t last that long. While Kowalkiewicz was staying busy from range and finding her groove in the early going, she couldn’t stop Gadelha’s first takedown attempt. Once Gadelha had the Polish striker on the ground, she worked for back control and secured a tight rear-naked choke finish.

With this win, Gadelha proves she’s on a very, very short list of title contenders at 115 pounds. She has lost twice to champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk so the Brazilian may have to win one more fight before getting another shot at UFC gold.
