Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is in love with reigning lightweight titleholder Conor McGregor.
Sure, they’ve had their differences, but at the end of the day, “Notorious” makes the world’s richest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion even richer, thanks to his ability to move the pay-per-view (PPV) needle and shut down countries.
And for his next trick?
McGregor just called out top-ranked division contender Khabib Nurmagomedov — straight up Rocky IV style — by demanding his next lightweight title defense take place against “The Eagle” in Russia.
White gushes to MMA Junkie:
“You know what Conor told me? He said, ‘I want Khabib in Russia.’ Isn’t he (expletive) awesome? Conor McGregor is a (expletive) unicorn. There’s nothing like him. He’s working on boxing Floyd Mayweather and then he’s talking about fighting Khabib in Russia right after. How do you not love him? How do you not love Conor McGregor? Amazing.”
Nurmagomedov is kind of a big deal in Russia.
It remains to be seen if McGregor returns to cage fighting after boxing Floyd Mayweather this August in Las Vegas, Nevada, a high-profile spectacle that is expected to make “Notorious” the second richest man in combat sports.
Behind this guy.
As for Nurmagomedov, he still has unfinished business against Tony Ferguson, so I wouldn’t buy that plane ticket for Russia just yet.
In fact, don’t buy any tickets.
