Bellator 180 took place over the weekend (Sat., June 24, 2017) at Madison Square Garden in New York City, featuring a stacked pay-per-view (PPV) card that saw Chael Sonnen dominate Wanderlei Silva with repeated takedowns en route to a unanimous decision in the main event.
Coincidentally, the results of the main event on Spike TV may also have hinged on takedowns. Over the course of five rounds, Ryan Bader hit several on Phil Davis — who had none — creating a result in their rematch eerily similar to the last time when Bader defeated Davis via split decision.
Spike TV today released numbers from its “Prelims” action before the PPV that peg the Bader vs. Davis rematch at a peak of 1.1 million viewers, while the overall Bellator 180 broadcast from 8 to 10 p.m. ET delivered an average of 901,000 viewers. An asterisk by these results noted that the numbers reflect combined viewership from both Spike and CMT.
Bellator and Spike also touted that #BellatorNYC was No. 1 on Twitter during the PPV and trending highly during much of the Spike TV portion, peaking at No. 2 during the 8 to 10 p.m. ET broadcast.
Additional DVR +3 numbers gave the show an updated average of 963,000 viewers and a peak of 1.3 million viewers at 9:46 p.m. ET, with an overall average of 1.2 million for Spike’s main event.
