UFC Fight Night 112 results: Tim Boetsch stops Johny Hendricks early with head kick, uppercuts

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Weigh Ins Sean Pokorny-USA TODAY Sports

Middleweights Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks and Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch squared off tonight (Sun., June 25, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 112 inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., on FOX Sports 1.

Hendricks joined an illustrious crew of men who have missed weight in two different weight divisions, a cast that includes Anthony Johnson, Charles Oliveira and John Lineker. Before that, he had beaten Hector Lombard in his Middleweight debut to snap a three-fight losing streak. Boetsch, meanwhile, had won two straight before Jacare Souza caught him in a kimura in his last bout.

They touched gloves. Boetsch threw a front kick to the body, then an inside leg kick. Hendricks threw an outside leg kick. He moved forward, stalking Boetsch. Hendricks threw a right hook to line up his left hook. Boetsch threw a body kick, and when Hendricks attempted a kick of his own Boetsch caught and countered. Hendricks threw a right hook. They exchanged, Hendricks landing his left hand, eating Tim’s right, and landing another left overhand. Hendricks tried to work inside but Tim lands a right uppercut and a body kick. He missed with another left hand. Hendricks threw that left hand again, doubling up on it. Boetsch landed a sneaky right straight that snapped Johny’s head back. Boetsch was landing the rear body teep with regularity. They clinched, and Boetsch landed a body-head combination.

Johny’s corner told him, “stay in control, you’re awesome,” between rounds. Boetsch threw a combination into a hard body kick. Johny came back with a hard leg kick. Boetsch rocked Hendricks with a beautiful head kick! Hendricks stumbled, Boetsch hit him with a combination. Johny swayed, and put his hand to the canvas. Boetsch swarmed on top of him, landing uppercuts as he held Johny’s head down with one hand, the referee had seen enough. Tim Boetsch scored a spectacular knockout, and the crowd, completely on Hendricks side, was completely silent.

It’s tough to see a way forward for Hendricks now, with another miss in weight and a loss in his new division. Boetsch said in the post-fight interview that he had deviated from his plan in his last fight, and this time he stayed with his gameplan and got the win. Great night for Tim Boetsch.

Official result: Tim Boetsch defeats Johny Hendricks via technical knockout in round two.
