UFC Fight Night 112 start time, TV schedule, who is fighting tonight at ‘Chiesa vs Lee'

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Tinaldo vs Lee Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the hurt business today (Sun., June 25, 2017) for UFC Fight Night 112 live from inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The FOX Sports 1-televised event, which will be headlined by a hard-hitting Lightweight scrap between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee, will also feature a co-main event bout between Johny Hendricks and Tim Boetsch.

What’s Hot:

Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee headlining an event normally wouldn’t get a lot of love, but after the two talented lightweights got into a scuffle during a press conference in Dallas, Texas (see it) the interest in the bout increased dramatically. The two have a ways to go before they get into title contention, but a victory for either man will cut that journey a bit shorter.

Also, B.J. Penn returns once again to the Octagon to face Dennis Siver after he was wrecked by Yair Rodriguez from pillar to post in his previous bout. This fight, though, is right up “The Prodigy’s” alley, as Siver isn’t exactly lighting the sport on fire, which could make for an interesting bout as the level of competition won’t be as high for Penn. That said, it’s a must-win for “Baby J,” as one more brutal loss could send him packing from the sport once and for all.

Original Card vs. Actual Card:

A bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ilir Latifi was scratched after “Lil Nog” was forced out of the event with a neck injury. Also, Azamat Murzakanov was replaced by Dominick Reyes against Joachim Christensen after Azamat was forced out of the fight for an undisclosed reason.

Injuries:

“Lil Nog” was the only one affected by the injury bug, which doesn’t bode well for the aging fighter’s future.

New Blood:

Michael Quinones and Jared Gordon will make their respective Octagon debuts against each other, and it should make for an interesting bout as both men only have one loss in their careers.

How The “Prelims” Look:

Pretty decent, actually. Clay Guida and Erik Koch will headline the undercard in a battle for relevancy, as both men have fallen off over the years. Still, both like to get at it, and it could e a showstopper and “Performance of the Night” winner once the dust settles. Also, former UFC women’s Strawweight champion Carla Esparza will look to climb back to another potential run at the title when she faces off against Maryna Munoz

Who Needs A Win Badly:

We all know B.J. Penn wont be competing for another title anytime soon, and perhaps for the remaineder of his career. But, “The Prodigy” needs a win, and bad, as he has dropped his last four fights (six of eight overall). Granted. his previous four defeats came against absolute killers like Nate Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Yair Rodriguez and Frankie Edgar. If he drops his fifth straight against Siver, I really don’t see any reason for “The Prodigy” to keep on fighting other than to collect a paycheck. Penn is still considered the best Lightweight of all time, but another loss will at least begin to tarnish his legacy, right?

Interest Level: 7/10

It’s a rather decent card that will get you ready for the upcoming stacked slate with UFC 213 and UFC 214. And for it being a late Sunday event, I’ll give this card some love. We get it all, young up-and-comers looking to make names for themselves, while long-time veterans like B.J. Penn — who need no introduction — still try to prove they still have something left in the tank. And don’t forget a former champion in Johny Hendricks looking to get a streak going at Middleweight against Tim Boetsch. “Bigg Rigg” is confident he’ll be faster, but Tim is a whole hell of a lot bigger, so don’t be surprised if “The Barbarian” flips the script. Also Felice Herrig will look to keep it going and earn her third straight win when she faces off against Justine Kish.
