Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos, made a successful debut at welterweight by turning away Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Singapore last weekend on Fight Pass.
Now, the Brazilian has a target on his back, thanks to his “juicy” name.
That’s according to rising 170-pound contender Colby Covington, who entered the division top 10 this week (see it) by outpointing veteran welterweight Dong Hyun Kim, which also took place in Singapore.
“Chaos” breaks it down for BJPenn.com:
“Rafael Dos Anjos is so juicy, just because of the name. The guy’s a bum, man. He’s old, he’s past his prime. I feel like that’s a good fight for me to get a Performance of the Night bonus against that guy. But he doesn’t want to fight, he’s scared. I was telling him back stage, right before the press conference, I was like ‘what’s up, you’re a bitch, you’re scared man, you don’t want to fight me.’ And he was like ‘oooh, ahh, you want that title shot?’ That’s all he could say to me. He’s scared man. He’s told the UFC he doesn’t want that fight. He doesn’t want anything to do to me. Rafael Dos Anjos, you’re a bitch.”
Dos Anjos debuted at No. 11 in the official rankings.
While pairing those two off seems like a no-brainer, Covington also has his sights set on the winner of Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone, who collide here. That might be asking a lot from both promotion and fighter, particularly in the case of “Ruthless,” who is just one fight removed from his division crown.
Covington (12-1) is the winner of four straight, with two finishes.
