Two elite Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight grapplers will lock horns this Sunday evening (June 25, 2017) when Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee settle their mama-fueled score inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., headlining UFC Fight Night 112 on FOX Sports 1.
Elsewhere on the card, Johny Hendricks makes his second Middleweight appearance against veteran spoiler Tim Boetsch and Felice Herrig attempts to build off of her upset of Alexa Grasso against Justine Kish.
It’s a solid Sunday lineup. Here’s how to get some more out of the deal than just entertainment.
What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 111?
UFC Fight Night 112 Odds For The Undercard:
Erik Koch (-245) vs. Clay Guida (+175)
Marvin Vettori (-300) vs. Vitor Miranda (+220)
Carla Esparza (-260) vs. Maryna Moroz (+180)
Darrell Horcher (-320) vs. Devin Powell (+240)
Jared Gordon (-130) vs. Michel Quinones (-110)
Tony Martin (-150) vs. Johnny Case (+110)
Josh Stansbury (-190) vs. Jeremy Kimball (+150)
Thoughts: Despite her setback against Randa Markos, I still consider Carla Esparza a safe investment, especially since the style match up favors her in a big way here. Moroz is lengthy and skilled on the feet, but not adept enough with her takedown defense to turn aside “The Cookie Monster’s” overpowering wrestling. All Esparza has to do to win this comfortably is avoid wasting time on the feet — the takedown’s there whenever she wants it and Moroz’s armbar isn’t sufficient deterrent.
UFC Fight Night 112 Odds For The Main Card:
Kevin Lee (-135) vs. Michael Chiesa (+115)
Johny Hendricks (-210) vs. Tim Boetsch (+175)
Felice Herrig (-130) vs. Justine Kish (-110)
Dominick Reyes (-310) vs. Joachim Christensen (+230)
Tim Means (-215) vs. Alex Garcia (+165)
Dennis Siver (-245) vs. B.J. Penn (+175)
Thoughts: Michael Chiesa’s worth a small investment, I’d say. He’s the more durable of the two by far and is more proven against fellow grapplers, having stopped Jim Miller and Beneil Dariush, while the best ground artist on Lee’s resume is a Michel Prazeres, who gassed halfway through the second round.
Sticking Johny Hendricks in a parlay with Esparza seems wise, as well. Boetsch’s wrestling has been inconsistent in recent years and Hendricks — whose 50 minutes with Robbie Lawler saw him shrug off insane punishment — has the durability to survive the famous Boetsch comeback.
UFC Fight Night 112 Best Bets:
- Parlay -- Carla Esparza and Johny Hendricks: Bet $40 to make $41.60
- Single bet -- Michael Chiesa: Bet $40 to make $46
I will be very, very surprised if UFC Fight Night 112 does not deliver at least a few fun fights this weekend. See you Sunday, Maniacs.
