The injury bug has bit its latest victim in Claudio Puelles, who has been forced out of his scheduled bout against Sage Northcutt, which was set to go down at UFC 214 in Anaheim, Calif., on July 29, 2017. As a result, John Makdessi will serve as Puelles’ replacement, facing “Super” in a Lightweight bout at the pay-per-view (PPV) event, which will be headlined the highly-anticipated Light Heavyweight rematch between division champion Daniel Cormier and ex-title holder, Jon Jones.

Northcutt has managed to accumulate an above-average record (3-2) in his short stint with the promotion. He was recently sidelined from mixed martial arts (MMA) action with ongoing issues with his tonsils; however, now that he has that taken care of — as well as a a renewed focus on fighting (due to this) and a new training camp — “Super” will look to bounce back from a loss to Mickey Gall back in Dec. 2016.
It won’t be easy, though, as Makdessi is perhaps the most experienced fighter Northcutt has faced, competing 13 times inside the Octagon. Still, he hasn’t had the best run as of late, losing four of his last six overall.
UFC 214 will also feature women’s Featherweight title fight as Cris Cyborg meets Megan Anderson for the vacant strap. To see who else will be competing at the stacked PPV event click here.
