Cat Zingano blames ‘medical bulls—t’ for turning down Cris Cyborg fight at UFC 214

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White will “definitely” give Cristiane Justino a fight at the upcoming UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) event, set for July 29, 2017 in Anaheim, California.

Just as soon as he finds her an opponent.

Former women’s bantamweight No. 1 contender, Cat Zingano, has long campaigned for a fight against “Cyborg,” but was unable to capitalize on the featherweight opportunity when “medical bullshit” kept her from competing in July.

“Alpha” talks to MMA Fighting:

“I think I can beat her right now, but if there is a more optimal level I can perform at, we all want me to reach that level. I think we all know I am the only one that can potentially take this chick any day, any time, when I'm 100 percent healthy and happy. But don't worry, it's coming, and I want it. This isn't a fight you go into with the medical bullshit I have, and the UFC knows I'm capable and it's probable. It's a different life problem with Cyborg, but one I have the solution to. I had to be smart about this fight, which means taking care of a few things first, but I'm in.”

Time is not on her side.

The 9-2 Zingano, 34, has not competed twice in a calendar year since 2010. In addition, “Alpha” is coming off consecutive losses to Ronda Rousey and Julianna Pena, the latter of which came on the heels of personal tragedy.

Whether or not she can still be a factor in either division, remains to be seen.
