Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor will box Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this summer. That means “Notorious” won’t be governed by the promotion’s sponsorship rules (read ‘em) on fight night, as they only apply to mixed martial arts (MMA).
“There’s a lot of open categories that we’ve been negotiating with brands, including Reebok,” McGregor’s agent, Audie Attar, told The MMA Hour. “We’ll see how that all plays out. He’s currently a free agent with regard to athletic apparel. We’re still in discussions with Reebok and other brands.”
Shall we start the bidding at one MEEL-YUN dollars?
McGregor and Mayweather could top five million pay-per-view (PPV) buys, according to this estimate, so the chance to latch on and be a part of this late-summer “farce” may pay dividends for attending sponsors.
Get ready for more of these.
The “Money” fight takes place Sat., Aug. 26, 2017 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (full details here).
