The stacked UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card just got ... er, stackier?
Former Strikeforce featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will finally get her long-desired featherweight title fight, though it won’t be against Germaine de Randamie, as the “Iron Lady” was stripped of her 145-pound crown after refusing to defend it.
Hand injury, bantamweight return, and whatever else was standing in her way.
And since Holly Holm has already made her way back to 135 pounds — in devastating fashion — the promotion was forced to import Invicta FC featherweight titleholder Megan Anderson, which means UFC now has a division populated by two.
Baby steps, I guess.
The 145-pound weight class was essentially built to accommodate Cyborg; however, she was delayed by her lingering health issues from previous catchweight bouts, then her brief dust-up with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
All water under the bridge (we hope).
UFC 214 takes place Sat., July 29, 2017 inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., topped by the light heavyweight rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. Elsewhere not the card, Jimi Manuwa looks to maintain his spot in the 205-pound title chase at the expense of Volkan Oezdemir.
