Last Saturday’s slog between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (watch it) was salvaged somewhat by the post-fight announcement that Alvarez would finally take on middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on September.
Anticipating the pending tsunami of betting, the oddsmakers have already come out with some opening lines.
Here’s what Bovada’s got for you.
Gennady Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez
Gennady Golovkin -165 (20/33)
Saul Alvarez +135 (27/20)
My recommendation?
Wait and see for a bit, because these things are going to go all over the place between now and September 16th. If odds start skewing too far in Golovkin’s direction, though, jump on it before it gets out of control. He’s got a clear power advantage and Canelo lacks the sort of top-notch lateral movement that’s befuddled him in the past.
We’ll have more on this fight, which figures to be by far the biggest of the year, as more of the show comes together.
