‘Canelo vs. Chavez Jr.’ fight purses: Alvarez set to bank $5 million, Chavez Jr. nabs $3 million

Fighting doesn’t come cheap. In fact, Canelo Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) are scheduled to bank some hefty fight purses later tonight (Sat., May 6, 2017) live on HBO pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Per ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the Nevada Athletic Commission bout info sheet is listing the following salaries for tonight’s action:


164.5 lbs.:

Canelo Alvarez: $5 million

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: $3 million

163 lbs.:

David Lemieux: $200,000

Marcos Reyes: $45,000

147 lbs.:

Lucas Matthysse: $200,000

Emanuel Taylor: $40,000

126 lbs.:

Joseph Diaz Jr: $150,000

Manuel Avila: $67,000

And here are the preliminary purses:

HBO Preliminary Card

122 lbs.:

Ronny Rios: $25,000

Daniel Noriega: $8,000

132 lbs.:

Ryan Garcia: $6,000

Tyrone Luckey: $3,000

111 lbs.:

Marlen Esparza: $4,000

Samantha Salazar: $3,000

149 lbs.:

Raul Curiel: $4,000

Jesus Sanchez: $2,500

135 lbs.:

Joseph Aguirre: $3,000

Angel Aispuro: $3,000

Alvarez and Chavez Jr. will both have the opportunity to earn more money based on their respective TV deals, which weren’t added to the salary sheet, but they’ll bring in millions nonetheless. It will be the first time that Mexican TV networks, Televisa and Azteca, will televise a HBO PPV boxing main event since Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao (h/t Bloody Elbow).

MMAmania will have LIVE coverage of “Canelo vs. Chavez Jr.” tonight, starting with the HBO pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast at 9 p.m. ET. You can also catch the undercard, which includes world-ranked Ronny Rios, starting at 7 p.m. ET.
