Report: Roy Nelson signs multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Volkov vs Nelson Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Portly power-puncher and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender Roy Nelson is saying goodbye to the Octagon, recently signing a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA.

That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.

Nelson (22-14) entered UFC by way of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10, not long after wearing gold for International Fight League (IFL). Despite capturing the glass trophy, “Big Country” was never able to make a serious run at the heavyweight title.

In fact, Nelson hasn’t won back-to-back fights in over fours years, across a span of 10 bouts, and is not exactly best buddies with promotion president Dana White. Perhaps he can get some love from Scott Coker and Co. over at Bellator.

A date and venue for his Spike TV return have yet to be determined. Hopefully he’s not caged with referee John McCarthy, considering what happened the last time they shared a cage.

Stay tuned.
