Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is preparing to fight later this summer, after Cody Garbrandt revealed a back injury that could force “No Love” to ride the pine for the next several months.
Not that Dillashaw is losing any sleep over it...
"I was told that if Cody is out of the fight, which I am 99 percent sure he is, I will be fighting [Demetrious Johnson] in August," the TUF: “Redemption” coach told ESPN.com. "I texted Dana White three days ago to ask what the deal was. He told me Cody had one more day of injections [in Germany] and then we'd find out what was going on.”
Garbrant was expected to defend his 135-pound strap in the UFC 213 main event.
Dillashaw is not asking Johnson to make any changes to his existing routine and will instead make the drop down to the flyweight division, a move promotion president Dana White has already approved.
Now we’re just waiting on Gabrandt and to a larger degree, “Mighty Mouse.”
