Jessica Andrade proposes to girlfriend after UFC 211 loss

It wasn’t all bad for Jessica Andrade last night (Sat., May 13, 2017) at UFC 211 when she lost to UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. After getting battered for 25-straight minutes and losing her bid for UFC gold, the Brazilian took the microphone and proposed to her girlfriend, who was in attendance cageside.

“Today, I’d like to make a special request to my girlfriend, Fernanda, who is here,” said Andrade through translation during the post-fight interview (shown above courtesy of UFC). “I want to ask her in marriage.”

The answer was yes.

Andrade is one of the few openly gay fighters in UFC today and certainly deserved some airtime after pushing forward like an angry dog against Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event.

She will leave Dallas a loser on paper, but Andrade will fly back to Brazil with her future wife by her side. Not too shabby, especially for a 25-year-old contender who will surely fight her way back to another shot at the strawweight title.
