The rematch is in motion, as UFC revealed earlier today (Fri., May 12, 2017) during its “Summer Kickoff” press conference (video replay here) that women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will defend her title opposite Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 213 on July 8 inside T-Mobile Arena from Las Vegas, Nevada, in a main event clash. Nunes previously defeated Shevchenko back at UFC 196 via unanimous decision.

Nunes, 28, has been on an absolute tear of late, submitting Miesha Tate at UFC 200 last July to claim the title and then knocking Ronda Rousey out in 48 seconds at UFC 207 to defend it. She is easily the most dangerous striker in the division and a champion the promotion trusts to headline back-to-back International Fight Week main events.
Shevchenko, 29, has defeated former champion Holly Holm and rising contender Julianna Pena since losing to “Lioness” in March of 2016. She represents a true test to the champion and one of the most decorated strikers in women’s MMA today.
With another UFC 213 title fight in jeopardy, the Nunes vs. Shevchenko booking couldn’t come at a better time.
