Gunnar Nelson vs Santiago Ponzinibbio headlines UFC ‘Glasgow’ on July 16

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender Gunnar Nelson just landed the headlining spot against Argentinean standout Santiago Ponzinibbio for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 113 mixed martial arts (MMA) event inside SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sun., July 16, 2017.

The promotion announced the FOX Sports 1 main event on Thursday.

After dropping a lopsided decision loss to top contender Demian Maia, Nelson (14-2-1) was able to rattle off back-to-back submission victories over Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban. The Icelander has 15 finishes in 16 wins.

Ponzinibbio (24-3), meanwhile, rebounded from a technical knockout loss to Lorenz Larkin to fire off four straight wins. “Gente Boa” was last seen outpointing the venerable Nordine Taleb back in February.

Interesting match up.

UFC Fight Night 113 will also feature Scotland's own Joanne Calderwood facing off against the unbeaten Cynthia Calvillo in strawweight action, while Paul Felder and Stevie Ray hook ‘em up at 155 pounds.
