Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veterans Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen will collide in a special grappling match at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Federation World Event this September inside Espoo Metro Arena in Finland.
That’s according to a report from Flo Grappling.
Sonnen was originally expected to face Ricardo Liborio; however, the Brazilian was injured a few weeks back and forced to withdraw. I’m not sure what injury can’t be healed in six months, but the show must go on.
Mir is currently serving a disciplinary suspension from United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and won’t be eligible to compete for UFC until 2018 (details). Sonnen, meanwhile, is booked to fight Wanderlei Silva this June at Bellator 180 (more on that here).
It’s worth noting that Mir competes at heavyweight and is an accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu back belt, while Sonnen, a two-time middleweight title contender, is a collegiate wrestling standout with nine career losses by way of submission.
But he always shows up and competes, so top marks for that.
