Two of the best light heavyweights were on display last night (Sat., April 8, 2017) at UFC 210 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, when current champion Daniel Cormier met knockout specialist Anthony Johnson in a long-awaited title rematch. Luckily for Cormier, the reboot went a lot like the original.
It was a back-and-forth first round as Johnson was able to land front kicks, oblique kicks and head kicks. One of his strikes even busted up Cormier’s nose, which seemed to be broke. But Johnson would continuously re-enter the clinch with “DC” and take away his greatest weapon on the feet. In Round 2, after a knee by “Rumble” allowed Cormier to grab a leg, the champion secured a timely takedown. He took Johnson’s back from there and fought for wrist control. After flattening Johnson out and working for the finish, Cormier found a home for the rear-naked choke to tap out Johnson yet again.

With this win, Cormier obviously retains his title, but more importantly locks down a rematch with a returning Jon Jones later this year. Cormier can continue to submit “Rumble” every two years, but his legacy won’t be complete unless he gets another crack at the champ. As for Johnson, retirement is in his future.
