Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor is close to finalizing a crossover super fight against undefeated boxing sensation Floyd Mayweather Jr., because this is prizefighting and there’s no greater prize in combat sports than a showdown with “Money.”
Even if the fight is a blowout.
“It’s a great spectacle, but I don’t think it will be a great fight,” former heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis told TMZ. “Conor is great at all styles, but Floyd is the master of one. If [Floyd] is gonna fight UFC, I don’t think he’ll win.”
He’s not the only one.
Whether or not McGregor vs. Mayweather ever comes to fruition all depends on how the proceeds are divvied up between promoters and fighters. When we last left them, Mayweather and UFC President Dana White were still arguing over who the “A” players were.
Meanwhile, the UFC lightweight division is a kingdom without a king.
