Midnight Mania! Cody Garbrandt brings TJ Dillashaw’s mom into the trash talk

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight ...

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight, Garbrandt brings TJ’s mother into the trash talk, Ben Askren questions GSP’s protruding belly, Junior Dos Santos training with Anthony Joshua, Cub and Ron Swanson face-melded, Al Iaquinta trashing lightweight fighters, knockouts, and much more.

Yo Mama!

The buildup to the bantamweight title fight between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt is truly no holds barred. They have breached gym etiquette, aired dirty Team Alpha Male laundry, called each other all sorts of names, shoved each other, and dragged mutual coaches and teammates into the fray. Now, they’ve involved family as well. Garbrandt has been telling Dillashaw to pick a charity for when Garbrandt sells the mythical video of himself knocking TJ out in the gym. (TMZ apparently offered 50K for the footage). Dillashaw responded with a suggestion to give the money to kids without fathers, so they wouldn’t turn out like Cody.

Now Garbrandt has brought TJ’s mother into the fray.

This came after a back-and-forth exchange in which Garbrandt accused Dillashaw of not being original with his insults, and Dillashaw blew Cody off as only using snake emojis.

Meanwhile, Chris Holdsworth, who Garbrandt claimed had his career ended by a Dillashaw cheap shot, denies this narrative and wants us all to mind our own business and keep his name out of it.

Nice poster!

Someone finally put this together. The Swansons are badasses, fictional and real.

Kevin Lee and Al Iaquinta would be a good matchup.

When Floyd Mayweather was young, he was a lot more aggressive.

Sometimes life comes at you fast:

Quick Hits

  • Watch Carla Esparza punch a willing victim in the face. She carries wavers in her purse now, this happens so often.
  • Nate Diaz can earn a third fight with Conor McGregor by fighting Tony Ferguson- says Tony Ferguson’s manager. Or, he could just wait. Not that I wouldn’t love to see that fight.
  • Watch Kenny Florian get choked out by Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. It’s a pretty tricky clock choke by the veteran Shaolin. Somewhat fun fact: When I first tried to take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Vitor Shaolin’s gym in Manhattan was the first place I visited. I shook his hand there, which was cool, but his Manhattan prices were too much for me and my intern’s stipend at the time. I found a gym in Queens instead.

Podcasts and Video

Jason Knight almost fought Conor McGregor? You know, I wouldn’t mind watching that. I also won’t mind watching Hick Diaz take on Chas Skelly at UFC 211.

Some report that it’s difficult to get sponsorship money even in Bellator because the Reebok deal collapsed the sponsorship market. Ryan Bader tells a different story:
