What’s next for Cub Swanson after racking up fourth straight UFC win in Nashville?

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Swanson vs Lobov Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Cub Swanson has been on a roll as of late.

After taking part in the 2016 “Fight of the Year” against Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 last December, Cub followed that performance up with a “Fight of the Night” victory over Artem Lobov at last night’s (Sat., April 22, 2017) in Nashville, Tennessee to give him his fourth straight victory.

Full video highlights here.

To top it off, he and longtime girlfriend and UFC personality, Kenda Perez, are set to welcome their first child together shortly, which is one of the reasons Swanson intends to take some time off from fighting, as he doesn’t expect to be back into the cage until December or January.

And since he is eying a title fight against either Jose Aldo and Max Holloway, his timing for a return is perfect, as the two co-champions at 145 are set to duke it out on June 3, 2017 at UFC 212, which means depending on the outcome, the unified champion likely won’t return to action for another five or six months.

That said, Swanson’s argument for a championship fight makes sense. He currently holds the longest active winning streak among any top five 145-pounder, minus Holloway. He will also likely jump up a spot or two on the rankings later this week, which could put him at No. 2. And if Frankie Edgar loses to Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 this May, it opens the lane wide open for Cub’s title bout.

Cub has tasted defeat to both Holloway and Aldo, but he admits that getting one back against Jose -- who knocked him out in a mere eight seconds back in 2009 — is one that he wants to desperately get back.

In the meantime, Swanson will enjoy his growing family and keeping sharpening his skills as he prepares for his potential first-ever UFC championship fight. Unless, of course, you have good reason to believe he doesn’t deserve one?
