Ovince St. Preux and Marcos Rogerio de Lima squared off inside the Octagon tonight, (Sat., April 22, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 108 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
OSP desperately needed a win, on a three-fight losing streak since meeting Jon Jones at short notice at UFC 197. De Lima had won his last bout coming into the fight.
They touched gloves. St. Preux checked a kick, then ate one as de Lima threw in combination. De Lima threw a hard body kick. OSP was circling, looking to stay out of range. De Lima kept up a steady diet of leg and body kick attempts, most of which OSP checked, blocked, or moved back to avoid. St. Preux drove forward with a triple rear hand, but he was pushing his punches. De Lima hit OSP hard with a combination. The crowd began chanting “OSP, OSP”. De Lima countered a jab with an overhand that surprised OSP. The Tennessee native finally moved forward and threw a hard body kick of his own that connected. De Lima whiffed on another body kick. De Lima stuffed an OSP shot so hard he bowled OSP over backwards. OSP stepped in with a combination and they traded. OSP hit a straight in between wild De Lima swings.
Round two began with a glove touch. De Lima landed a leg kick as St. Preux jabbed. OSP caught one of those body kicks and drove De Lima backwards and to the canvas. He got on top and began landing nice elbows from the top. The crowd popped in St. Preux’s support. De Lima tried to sit up, but OSP muscled him back down. De Lima grabbed a headlock, but OSP put intense pressure on from half guard and made him tap from a Von Flue choke! Very impressive submission, the second of OSP’s career, and a badly needed win for him.
In the post-fight interview, OSP addressed Dana White and told him to send him the contract. OSP said he and his coaches call the choke the “Von St. Preux”, which is fitting, as he is the first fighter to win with that submission twice in UFC competition.
Official result: Ovince Saint Preux def. Marcos Rogério de Lima via submission (Von Flue choke) at 2:11 of Round 2
