Luke Rockhold wants Yoel Romero interim title fight, but will gladly settle for Robert Whittaker

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, who also wore gold for Strikeforce in the 185-pound weight class, is tired of sitting around twiddling his thumbs while division kingpin Michael Bisping plays cage tag with Georges St-Pierre.

Not that he needs the money.

So if “The Count” wants to drag his feet with “Rush” as they try to hammer down a potential date and venue, Rockhold wants to reestablish himself as the next best thing at 185 pounds, even if that means turning away Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.

From his conversation with Submission Radio:

“I’ve been looking for a fight between all these guys. I’m not necessarily calling (Whittaker) out, we’re running out of opponents. Anderson Silva declined to fight. Other guys are out of the mix. Yoel’s waiting for an interim title or the real title. Romero wants that interim title, I know that for a fact and he’s not going to fight anybody else so if that comes to be, I’d gladly fight Yoel. That’s one and two. One and two should fight for it, if that’s the case. The champion should fight one but if one and two are fighting, it should be an interim title, a guarantee that we’re gonna fight for the title next.”

“The Reaper” is suddenly very, very popular...

Whittaker enter the middleweight fray by smashing top contender Ronaldo Souza last weekend on FOX (watch it). With “Jacare” out of the way — and eliminating the need for a Rockhold rematch, the field is wide open.

Not that a promise from UFC means anything but hey, that’s prizefighting.
