It’s “Cub vs. Stub” this Saturday evening (April 22, 2017) inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., as No. 5-ranked Featherweight veteran Cub Swanson takes on squat brawler Artem Lobov in UFC Fight Night 108’s main event.

The supporting cast features the return of Al Iaquinta against Diego Sanchez, as well as must-watch slugfests like Ovince Saint Preux vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima and John Dodson vs. Eddie Wineland.

Indeed, it’s a solid night of fights. Now, it’s time to see how much dough we can squeeze out of it.

What went wrong at UFC on FOX 24?

Lots! Ashlee Evans-Smith refused to commit to her takedowns and “Jacare” got drubbed. I will say that I don’t regret the bet on Louis Smolka; however, he took advantage of Tim Elliott’s lack of positional control as expected, but couldn’t get the finish, partially because of Elliott showing some actual restraint when pursuing submissions. Thanks go out to Devin Clark for keeping us afloat.

UFC Fight Night 108 Odds For The Undercard:

Sam Alvey (-120) vs. Thales Leites (EVEN)
Dustin Ortiz (-210) vs. Brandon Moreno (+175)
Scott Holtzman (-345) vs. Michael McBride (+285)
Jessica Penne (-145) vs. Danielle Taylor (+125)
Alexis Davis (-275) vs. Cindy Dandois (+235)
Bryan Barberena (-320) vs. Joe Proctor (+260)
Hector Sandoval (-120) vs. Matt Schnell (EVEN)

Thoughts: Really not seeing much here. I was very hopeful that Brandon Moreno’s recent successes would inflate his odds against Dustin Ortiz, but cooler heads have sadly prevailed. Honestly, though, I think he’s still worth a look. Ortiz is the sort of vicious scrambler who opportunistic submission artists have nightmares about. Incredibly strong, relentless and boasting ridiculous cardio, his style demands a comfort with adversity for which Moreno’s young career simply has not prepared him. I believe he drags Moreno into deep waters and drowns him there.

UFC Fight Night 108 Odds For The Main Card:

Cub Swanson (-680) vs. Artem Lobov (+490)
Al Iaquinta (-420) vs. Diego Sanchez (+335)
Ovince Saint Preux (-185) vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima (+160)
John Dodson (-410) vs. Eddie Wineland (+330)
Stevie Ray (-220) vs. Joe Lauzon (+180)
Mike Perry (-185) vs. Jake Ellenberger (+160)

Thoughts: You know what? Let’s throw our lot in with the power-punchers. Marcos Rogerio de Lima and Jake Ellenberger are the men of the hour.

“Pezao” de Lima is, in my opinion, the single hardest puncher in the Light Heavyweight division now that “Rumble” Anthony Johnson has set sail. Saint Preux, meanwhile, has yet to show any meaningful improvement in his game since blowing away “Shogun” Mauricio Rua and Patrick Cummins. His incredible athleticism simply has not produced the sort of overall brilliance we expected out of him during his Strikeforce days. If de Lima lands with the sort of regularity that Volkan Oezdemir did, it will be a very short night. That’s a possibility worth betting on.

Jake Ellenberger has gone through a roller coaster UFC career, but the fact remains that he’s my pick for the hardest puncher in the history of the Welterweight division. His myriad losses have come to technical strikers who picked him apart at range. Mike Perry — whose only strategy is to run head-long at the opponent and hope they fall before he does — does not fit that bill. That’s simply not viable against a man who can out-punch the average Middleweight. Ellenberger for the upset.

You can probably safely add Swanson to a parlay with Ortiz. If Artem Lobov manages to knockout Swanson when Doo Ho Choi couldn’t, something has gone terribly wrong with the world.

UFC Fight Night 108 Best Bets:

  • Parlay -- Dustin Ortiz and Cub Swanson: Bet $72 to make $50
  • Single bet — Marcos Rogerio de Lima: Bet $30 to make $48
  • Single bet -- Jake Ellenberger: Bet $30 to make $48

At the very least, there will be violence, which is good enough for me. See you Saturday, Maniacs!
