Cris Cyborg’s UFC contract set to expire in Oct. 2017

Cris Cyborg recently claimed that her manager was blowing up UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby’s phone in an attempt to get a fight for her. With no luck, the devastating striker called for her release if the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement.

According to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, however, Cyborg’s contract is set to expire in October of this year, which means the former Invicta FC Featherweight champion could be parting ways with the promotion regardless if she hasn’t fulfilled the remaining fights on her seven-fight deal.

According to multiple sources, Cyborg has two fights left on her current UFC contract. However, she also has a clause in her contract which states the deal expires come October 2017, regardless of how many fights are left on it.

Interesting.

Cyborg hasn’t seen the inside of the Octagon since beating Lina Lansberg to a bloody pulp at UFC Fight Night 95 last September. She was hoping to get a title fight against UFC’s 145-pound champion Germaine de Randamie; however, the champ is still on the mend from a busted up hand and potential surgery has delayed the fight.

That said, Team Cyborg is still hoping to get the De Randamie fight at the upcoming UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to go down on July 29, 2017, in Anaheim, California.

And if you pair it with the potential Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones Light Heavyweight championship rematch, that card could be bananas.
