Daniel Cormier and Jimi Manuwa continue to throw shade at each other on Twitter, but unlike most Twitter wars that never develop into anything real, it sounds like Manuwa may have goaded Cormier into granting the heavy handed UK fighter the next crack at his 205 pound title. Take a look at this exchange that went down Monday morning between the two.
@dc_mma take the fight Daniel.

I'm not trying to catch anything. Let's go! I wanna fight you! Jones needs to get his sea legs back. Where's the contract. This light work https://t.co/GIiBKUTCmN

The most interesting part of this exchange is where it sounds like Manuwa and Cormier have verbally agreed with the UFC to fight each other. There’s no contract yet, though, which makes me wonder whether a showdown between Jimi and Daniel is the UFC’s first choice for Cormier’s next defense or not.
The obvious third wheel here is Jon Jones, whose latest suspension finishes up in July. But according to Daniel Cormier, there’s behind the scenes reasons as to why that’s not going to happen.
@POSTERBOYJM @dc_mma Doing everything to avoid bones!!! Anyway hope you knock him out jimmy

If you dummies only knew. Keep making observations from the outside loser. https://t.co/VWzR2876pc

We can only imagine what strange behind the scenes machinations are going on right now that are keeping Cormier from finally getting a chance at redemption against Jones. Whether it’s simply Jones wanting to ‘get his sea legs back’ or something deeper, one thing seems for certain: Jon won’t be fighting for the title in his first fight back. And while Daniel Cormier doesn’t seem overly happy with that, he’s making the most of the situation and getting right into the head games with Jimi Manuwa.
