UFC on FOX 24 medical suspensions: Jacare Souza out 30 days

UFC on FOX 24: Johnson vs. Reis went down this past weekend in Kansas City, Missouri and was free from a lot of the commission-created drama we've started to expect whenever the UFC passes through certain other states like New York. Another area where the Missouri Office of Athletics differs from the New York State Athletic Commission? They're a lot lighter on giving out medical suspensions than their NYC counterparts.

After UFC 210, the NYSAC medically suspended 16 of the 26 fighters on the card. In comparison, Missouri has suspended 4 fighters, and they're exactly who you'd expect. Via MMAFighting.com:

• Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza: Suspended for 30 days
• Patrick Williams: Suspended for 30 days
• Andrew Sanchez: Suspended for 90 days
• Nate Coy: Suspended for 30 days

Souza was battered bloody in his TKO loss to Robert Whittaker and took a couple of really gnarly looking shots to the head en route to finally being put down by the Australian fighter. Williams was basically knocked out with hard elbows twice by Tom Duquesnoy, and Andrew Sanchez got KO'd completely by a head kick from Anthony Smith on the UFC Fight Pass Prelims. Meanwhile, Nate Coy gets 30 days after being choked unconscious by Zak Cummings, which is probably good considering the submission ended up being held a little longer than we'd like to see.

All in all, a pretty reasonable list of medical suspensions for Missouri. Between the excellent crowd at UFC on FOX 24 and the competent commission work, we can only hope the UFC returns to the state sooner rather than later.
