Robert Whittaker called out Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Michael Bisping shortly after his win over Ronaldo Souza at UFC on FOX 24 (see it), reminding “The Count” that he owed him a fight after their matchup was scratched a few years ago.
But should Bisping lose the strap to Georges St-Pierre, or even Yoel Romero, Whittaker’s bottom line is a title fight, so it won’t make a difference to him who has the gold around his waist.
“I’m on my title run, and I want that belt. If Bisping loses that fight, or if he’s tied up or whatever, I want that belt. Wherever it goes, I want it,” said Robert during the post-fight presser (via MMA Junkie).
With seven straight wins and his absolute destruction of “Jacare” under his belt, Whittaker definitely made a case for his own shot at the strap. Unfortunately, he might have to play a long waiting game, as Yoel Romero is the next contender after St-Pierre gets his turn.
Whether or not “The Reaper” decides to ride the pine for so long remains to be seen,
