Former UFC women’s strawweight title challenger Rose Namajunas looked to get back into immediate title contention last night (Sat., April 15, 2017) at UFC on FOX 24 live on FOX from inside Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, when she took on the always entertaining Michelle Waterson. The winner would most likely challenge the winner of Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade later this year.
It was Namajunas the whole way through. After Waterson secured a nice sweep takedown early into the first round, “Thug” was able to adjust, sneak to her back and threaten with a classic full nelson. As Waterson began to open up in Round 2, Namajunas landed a beautiful head kick that sent “Karate Hottie” onto her butt. From there, Namajunas would rain down nasty ground-and-pound before sinking in a rear-naked choke finish.

With this win, Namajunas sets herself up to fight for the title her next time out. There aren’t many strawweights in the world with more potential than “Thug,” so it’s nice to know she’s cashing in on that potential when it matters most. This is easily the biggest victory of her career against a legit contender.
